The LUISA (LUpus InSpired Advocacy) Project, was set up by Rheumatology Educational Trust Foundation, Inc. (RETFI) to develop, promote, and support a robust and dynamic national lupus RESEARCH agenda by establishing and maintaining the Filipino Lupus Registry, and pursuing studies to better define the role of genetic, environmental and socio-cultural factors in lupus disease expression.
The LUISA Project also seeks to enhance physician and patient EDUCATION, through:

- Self-help programs for patients and caregivers
- Educational grants for physicians
- Establishing alliances with world experts in lupus
Presidential Proclamation No. 1435 declaring the first week of every February as Lupus Advocacy Week, was approved through the efforts of the LUISA Project.
